Mexicali Rose Newtown, CT
Welcome to Mexicali Rose, a delightful Mexican restaurant located at 71 S Main St #1, Newtown, CT. This cozy gem captures the essence of authentic Mexican cuisine, infused with the warmth of family tradition. As I stepped through the doors, the inviting ambiance set the stage for a memorable dining experience.
From the moment you enter, you are greeted by the aromas of fresh ingredients and spices that make your mouth water. This small establishment, with only about six tables, exudes an old-world charm that fosters a sense of community. It's the perfect spot for casual dining, where each meal is crafted as if it were for family.
- Soups: The Black Bean Soup, topped with raw onion, cilantro, and a dollop of sour cream, is a must-try at only $3.25. It’s hearty and flavorful, a perfect opener to your meal.
- Nachos: Don’t miss the Chorizo Nachos. For $8.25, you get a piping hot mountain of tortilla chips generously layered with chorizo, cheese, and fresh toppings. The Mexi Nachos ($7.95), with your choice of chicken or beef, is another crowd favorite.
- Salads: If you’re looking for something lighter, the Grilled Chicken Salad ($8.25) is a delightful mix of fresh greens, radish, and cilantro. The Mexicali Avocado salad ($7.95) is another treat, bursting with flavors of queso fresco and ripe tomatoes.
Courtney Datin, a loyal patron, sums it up perfectly: "I love Mexicali Rose! I make sure to pick up food any time I'm in the area." Her sentiment resonates with many who have walked through these doors. Matt Taylor reminisces about the amazing food that exceeded his childhood memories, while Carmen Burgio appreciates the authenticity and fulfilling portions. The family-run nature of the business shines through in their friendly service and the love that goes into each dish.
For those seeking comfort food, Sheryl Bates recommends the Carrot Chipotle Soup and the roasted pork, both of which have become staples for regulars. Don’t overlook their flan, which is a delightful way to end your meal. With countless glowing reviews and an unwavering commitment to quality, it’s clear why customers keep returning.
Whether it’s a simple lunch or a special occasion, Mexicali Rose offers a bite of Mexico in every dish. I left feeling not just satisfied, but connected to a culture that celebrates flavor and family. Make this hidden treasure a part of your dining rotation; you won’t regret it!

I used to come here on occasion my uncle when I was a younger as he lived not far from here before he moved; I always enjoyed the food. Recently my brothers and our wives were passing through from a trip down to the coast and on the way back home we stopped her. It's even better than I remembered. Food is delicious, service is fast and very friendly. The chips are AMAZING! My wife got shrimp in a poblano sauce that hit just a little heat with an amazing flavor. I want to work this in to the rotation of places we go it is so good. This is one of those small mom and pop stores that has authentic food you know is cooked with love. Thank you for the great food!

The food is very authentic and filling. This is a small business run by family. There are only about 6 tables which makes the ambience very old world and home style. Everyone I know who goes there loves the place, food, and staff. I had the tacos. 2 were more than enough and very tasty! I will go back there again and will pass the word around to those of us who love Mexican style food.
